“Tower of Babel, a Panel for Translations”
Abstract
Our Hyperledger Community has +73,000 members in 180 meetup groups in 81 countries, and the largest number of tools and applications of DLT, distributed ledger technology. Its documentation, courses, and seminars, however, are still in English, a language 80% of the world population do not speak.
This Panel is a Call for Translations. We believe that to translate is to include, to understand, to learn, and to save.
Hyperledger Latinoamerica hosts this forum to review worldwide experiences translating Hyperledger Fabric and explore future strategies to engage more translators.
Tower of Babel is a collaborative complement to the important efforts of Hyperledger Fabric Documentation Working Group.
Session Details:
Presentation of the Panelists
- A brief introduction to geography and demographics of stakeholders: population size of native speakers, regional distribution of cities.
Presentation of available resources
- A brief description of Anthony O’Dowd’s 2019 initiative as a repeatable process to translate the documentation with its Contributing Guide in GitHub.
- Hyperledger Latinoamerica parallel process to engage a wider ecosystem of translators.
Sharing of experiences
- Each panelist shall present their translation experiences: Chinese, Malayalam, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish.
- Successes and lessons learned.
- Tips to follow, difficulties to avoid, wish list for the future.
Next steps
- Joint Program to develop new tools, engage more translators, build institutional alliances, and find sponsors for this collective endeavor.
