New members:

  • Kyle Robinson

Standards WG:

  • How do we migrate step by step into a more standardized process of the carbon offset markets? Quite some activity on the mailing list
  • There will have to be a public network. Feeding into this will be edge networks (private)
  • Continue the work in the next meeting on Tuesday, September 14, 5 PM CET

Caron Offset directory

Discussions:

  • Public blockchain vs. private blockchain + public database like orbit-db
    • Hyperledger Besu could be a good approach. It unites a private permissioned network with a link to the public Ethereum mainnet
  • Break offsets into smaller units than 1 tonne of CO2 equivalent. Micropayment, e.g. I offset the CO2 emissions of my cup of coffee directly when I buy it
  • Interwork Alliance: Voluntary Ecological Markets → We could build on top of that to define schemas for the creation of tokenized carbon offsets. Christiaan Pauw
  • Research existing token standards. What token standard are we using in the emissions token projects? Si Chen could probably tell us more about that.
  • Create a branch in our Hyperledger-lab `blockchain-carbon-accounting` for an enhanced creation of tokenized carbon offsets

  1. HI Robin Klemens Christiaan PauwWe're not using a "token standard" for offsets, just meta data that could be pretty flexible to record whatever we need.  In the open offsets directory, we just have the data from the registries themselves.

Also I wrote a follow up to the mailing list about how governance for an orbitdb offsets directory could work: https://lists.hyperledger.org/g/climate-sig/message/725  Pls lmk your thoughts here or on the ML.
