Lohan has been a co-founder of various cybersecurity and blockchain-based ventures in digital identity and personal data protection, a DApp called Amply aimed towards dematerialising the early childhood development subsidy claims to optimising the impact market with the IXO protocol; the blockchain for impact. His latest venture - DIDx focuses on self-sovereign identity and cybersecurity. As a serial entrepreneur and self-sovereign identity thought leader, he continues to find motivation in building start-ups that leverage exponential technology and decentralised trust networks with the vision to achieve the identity for all. He is also a founding steward of the Sovrin Network and chair of the Sovrin Steward Council and ex-officio Sovrin Foundation board member and trustee. Furthermore, he is an active participant/member in the South African Financial Blockchain Consortium (SAFBC), South African National Blockchain Alliance (SANBA), World Economic Forum Digital Identity Coalition, Bankserv Digital Identity project, Decentralised Identity Foundation, Trust over IP Foundation and a frequent speaker on self-sovereign identity.
Convening a new instrument to support youth driven digital innovation in Africa
Johannes Wedenig has a longstanding experience in development cooperation with bilateral agencies, the European Union and since 20 years with UNICEF. He held several positions as UNICEF head of office in Guyana, Kosovo, Burundi and Malawi. He has a proven track record of thinking differently and innovating. He believes that traditional development organisations must reinvent themselves to stay relevant and deliver results for children and young people. Recent examples in Malawi were the opening of the first humanitarian drone testing corridor in Africa, the foundation of the African Drone and Data Academy and the use of predictive analytics to combat epidemics.
Since September 2019 has embarked on a design journey with young people in Africa that gave birth to “Yoma”; a youth centric market place and partnership ecosystem that matches young people’s aspirations with opportunities to make an impact, grow their talent and enhance their livelihoods.
Wesley is an Innovation Manager in the Generation Unlimited global team in New York where he focuses on identifying and bringing together pioneers and experts to harness the power of major new trends to create transformational change for young people related to Digital Connectivity; Job-Matching; Green Economy; Remedial Learning; Remote Learning and Work; Smart Cities; Mental Health; Instant Translation; Portable Certifications; Data and Measurement; and, Innovative Financing.
Prior to this he held multiple positions within UNICEF where he was tasked with undertaking activities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of UNICEF Country Offices. He also worked in the Office of the Executive Director providing strategic advice and guidance to the Deputy Executive Director, Field Results and co-lead the development of a new Innovation strategy for the whole of UNICEF and repositioned the Office of Innovation to align with the new strategy.
Prior to this, Wesley was a strategy consultant at Deloitte Canada for several years where he worked on over 30 projects within the private and public sector focusing primarily on enterprise wide cost reduction, business operations assessments, strategic planning, process improvement, and enterprise wide transformation planning.
Wesley currently leads the Partnership dimension of the Yoma initiative.
